Restore Terminal Windows After Restart
What This Does
Configure Terminal to automatically reopen your windows and tabs exactly as they were when you restart your Mac.
Why It's Useful
Pick up where you left off. No need to remember which directories you were in or which commands you were running. Your terminal state persists across restarts.
How to Do It
- Open System Settings and go to Desktop & Dock
- Turn off "Close windows when quitting an application"
- In Terminal, go to Settings > Profiles > Window
- Check "Restore text when reopening windows"
Try This Now
Open a few terminal tabs, navigate to different directories, then quit Terminal. Reopen Terminal and verify your tabs and directories are restored.
Mental Hook: Pick up where you left off.
