Test your iPadOS muscle memory across apps and gestures.

iPad Basics
Capture, preview, done.
- Press the Top Button and Volume Up button at the same time
- The screen flashes and a thumbnail appears in the corner
- Tap the thumbnail to crop or mark up, or swipe it away to save to Photos
Record it once, explain it never.
- Open Settings → Control Center
- Tap the green + next to Screen Recording
- Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center
- Tap the record button, wait for the countdown, then tap the red status bar to stop
Swipe down, find anything.
- From the Home Screen, swipe down anywhere on the middle of the screen
- Start typing an app name, file name, or calculation
- Tap a result to open it, or read the answer inline for math and conversions
One swipe home.
- Place your finger on the bottom edge of the screen
- Swipe up smoothly and release — do not pause
- The current app shrinks away and the Home Screen appears
Navigation & App Control
Swipe up, pause, choose.
- Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen
- Pause briefly before lifting your finger
- All open apps appear as cards — tap one to switch to it
Flick it away.
- Swipe up and pause to open the App Switcher
- Swipe an app card upward to close it
- To close several at once, use multiple fingers to swipe up on multiple cards simultaneously
Slide between apps.
- Place your finger on the home bar at the bottom of the screen
- Swipe left or right along the bottom edge
- The previous app slides into view instantly
Nudge up, dock appears.
- While in any app, place your finger on the bottom edge of the screen
- Swipe up slightly — just enough to reveal the Dock, then stop
- Tap an app icon in the Dock to open it, or drag one to the side for Split View
Multitasking
Two apps, one screen.
- Open the first app you want to use
- Tap the three dots at the upper left of the screen to open the 'Stoplight' menu
- Tap and hold the green (right most) icon to open the 'Split View' menu
- Choose the desired window position from the list and the app will snap to it.
Drag the line.
- With two apps open in Split View, locate the vertical divider between them
- Place your finger on the divider and drag left or right
- Release when each app has the amount of space you want
Float an app on top.
- Open the app you want as your main workspace
- Tap the three dots at the top center and choose the Slide Over icon (a rectangle with a smaller rectangle on top)
- Pick the second app from the Home Screen or Dock
- The second app appears as a floating panel you can drag to either side
Lift, move, drop.
- Open two apps side-by-side in Split View, or one app with Slide Over
- Press and hold the item you want to move (text, photo, file, or link)
- Drag it toward the other app and release when you see the drop target highlight
Video floats, work continues.
- Start playing a video in a supported app (Safari, FaceTime, YouTube, etc.)
- Tap the Picture-in-Picture button in the video controls, or swipe up from the bottom to go home while the video is playing
- The video shrinks into a floating window you can drag to any corner
- Pinch to resize the window, or tap the X to close it
Text & Editing
Hold space, aim cursor.
- Tap in a text field to bring up the on-screen keyboard
- Press and hold the space bar
- When the keys dim, slide your finger to move the cursor
- Release when the cursor is where you want it
Swipe left to take it back.
- Place three fingers on the screen
- Swipe left to undo the last action
- Swipe right to redo an action you just undid
Pinch to copy, spread to paste.
- Select the text you want to copy or cut
- Pinch in with three fingers to copy
- Pinch in twice quickly with three fingers to cut
- Spread out with three fingers to paste at the cursor
Files, Notes & Capture
Corner swipe, idea captured.
- Place your finger or Apple Pencil in the bottom-right corner of the screen
- Swipe diagonally inward toward the center
- A Quick Note window appears — type your note and swipe it away to save
Point, scan, PDF done.
- Open the Notes app and create a new note or open an existing one
- Tap the camera icon above the keyboard
- Select Scan Documents
- Point the camera at the document — it auto-captures when detected, or tap the shutter button
- Tap Save when finished scanning all pages
Drag to select.
- Open the Photos app and navigate to an album or the Recents view
- Tap Select in the top-right corner
- Tap one photo, then without lifting your finger, drag across other photos to select them in a batch
- Tap Share, Delete, or Add to Album to act on the selection
Safari & Media
Website as an icon.
- Open the website in Safari
- Tap the Share button (square with an arrow pointing up)
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
- Edit the name if you want, then tap Add
Mac Companion Skills
Your iPad becomes extra screen space.
- On the Mac, open Control Center from the menu bar
- Click Screen Mirroring
- Select your iPad
- Open System Settings → Displays if needed
- Set the iPad to 'Extended Display' instead of mirror
- Drag Mac windows onto the iPad screen
Same Mac screen, two places.
- On the Mac, open Control Center
- Click Screen Mirroring
- Choose your iPad
- Open System Settings → Displays
- Set the iPad to mirror the Mac display
The screen map should match your desk.
- On the Mac, open System Settings
- Choose Displays
- Click Arrange
- Drag the iPad display icon to match its real position
- Move the pointer across that edge to test it
Two devices, one pointer.
- Place the iPad near your Mac
- Make sure both devices use the same Apple Account
- On the Mac, open System Settings → Displays
- Click Advanced
- Enable pointer and keyboard sharing with nearby devices
- Move the Mac pointer off the edge of the screen toward the iPad
Drag across the invisible bridge.
- Set up Universal Control
- Open a compatible app on the iPad
- On the Mac, click and hold a file or image
- Drag it across the screen edge onto the iPad
- Drop it into the destination app
One clipboard for both devices.
- Make sure both devices use the same Apple Account
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices
- Copy text, an image, or a link on the Mac
- Open an app on the iPad
- Paste normally
Pick up where you left off.
- Use the same Apple Account on both devices
- Enable Handoff in system settings
- Open a supported app such as Safari, Mail, Notes, or Messages
- Begin working on one device
- Look for the Handoff icon on the other device
- Tap or click it to continue
Nearby file teleport.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices
- On the sending device, choose Share
- Tap or click AirDrop
- Select the other device
- Accept the file if prompted
Save once, open anywhere.
- Save a file to iCloud Drive on the Mac
- Open the Files app on the iPad
- Tap iCloud Drive
- Find the file
- Open or edit it on the iPad
The iPad becomes your mixer.
- Install Logic Remote on the iPad
- Open Logic Pro on the Mac
- Open Logic Remote on the iPad
- Choose your Mac from the connection list
- Use the iPad for transport, mixer, smart controls, and instruments
The iPad becomes a touch instrument.
- Install a MIDI controller app on the iPad
- Connect the iPad to the Mac using USB or network MIDI
- Open Audio MIDI Setup on the Mac if needed
- Enable the iPad as a MIDI source
- Choose the iPad controller inside your music app
Mac file, iPad pencil.
- On the Mac, open a PDF or image
- Click the Markup button
- Choose the iPad as the markup device if prompted
- Use your finger or Apple Pencil on the iPad
- Click Done to save the changes back on the Mac
Draw on iPad, land on Mac.
- On the Mac, open a supported app such as Pages, Keynote, Notes, or Mail
- Choose File or Insert
- Select Insert from iPad
- Choose Add Sketch
- Draw on the iPad
- Tap Done to insert it into the Mac document
The iPad camera feeds the Mac.
- On the Mac, open a supported app
- Choose Insert from iPad
- Select Scan Documents
- Use the iPad camera to scan the page
- Tap Save
- The scan appears on the Mac
Take the photo where the document needs it.
- On the Mac, open a supported app
- Choose Insert from iPad
- Select Take Photo
- Take the photo on the iPad
- Tap Use Photo
- The photo appears on the Mac
Sidecar turns iPad into a drawing tablet.
- Start Sidecar from the Mac
- Use the iPad as an extended display
- Move a drawing or design app window onto the iPad
- Use Apple Pencil on the iPad screen
- The Mac app receives the input
The Mac becomes the receiver.
- On the iPad, open Control Center
- Tap Screen Mirroring
- Choose your Mac
- Enter a code if prompted
- The iPad screen appears on the Mac
Answer from the device under your hands.
- Sign into Messages with the same Apple Account on both devices
- Open Messages on the Mac
- Open Messages on the iPad
- Start or continue a conversation on either device
- Switch devices without losing the thread
Your phone can stay in your pocket.
- Use the same Apple Account on iPhone, Mac, and iPad
- Enable Calls on Other Devices on the iPhone
- Allow calls on the Mac and iPad
- When a call comes in, answer it from either device
Mac for work, iPad for context.
- Place the iPad next to the Mac
- Open the reference app on the iPad
- Open your main work app on the Mac
- Use Universal Control or Sidecar if helpful
- Keep the iPad dedicated to supporting material
The iPad becomes a custom button board.
- Install a control surface app on the iPad
- Install any required companion app on the Mac
- Connect both devices to the same network
